I Don't Recognize the Country

I am not political in any way, but the ideology I see in all the parties that occupy what is traditionally called "the right" in the country is one that is not Canadian. It seems to consist of a mean social determinism and a set of values that are so antithetical to those that characterized the country I grew up in.   We are a peaceful country, mindful of our neighbours, supportive of each other and now I find we are governed by a heavy handed, manipulative and increasingly hostile government that is taking this country down a road I doubt most people want to take.

L'HERMOINE

The L'Hermoine sailed for the first time this month to begin sea trials prior to crossing the Atlantic and visiting a number of ports recreating its voyage in 1780 to bring Lafayette to assist Washington during the American Revolution.  Beautiful replica from the Age of Sail!!

An IP350 Goes for a Rough Ride

The mooring line separates and the boat goes for a wild ride.  This is a testament to how strong the Island Packets are:

An IP465 in the BVI's

Here is a group enjoying a vacation aboard an IP 465. Sweet!

Through the Panama Canal

Our friends aboard Grinn II are contemplating heading into the Caribbean from the Pacific which will take them through the Panama Canal.  I had forgotten that there is a huge project presently underway expanding the canal:

Countdown to Haul Out

So we are scheduled to haul Terratima on March 28th at 9 AM.  She comes out of the water to have the following done:

  • Bottom antifouling paint
  • Replacements of 4 zincs:  2 for the bow thruster, one on the propellor shaft and one on the stainless steel keel-to-rudder connection.
  • Repaint the bootstrap with 2 part Interlux Perfection
  • Install a new thru-hull intake for a future water maker.
We will photograph all of this and post it as it happens.

Milestone of Sorts

Our blog has passed 50,000 page views.  Not that I follow that stuff too closely, but thanks to all that have dropped by to share our experiences aboard our beloved Terratima

Revision to Watermaker Installation Plan

The dealer for EchoTec here in Vancouver suggested one change to the installation plan for the system.  Instead of routing the brine discharge into the shower sump and then overboard, the dealer suggested teeing into the sink drain.  Much easier and more reliable.

Hauling the Boat

We will be hauling out on March 28 with a planned return to the water one week later.  The plan is to do the following:

  • Bottom paint
  • Replace the zincs (there are 4 of them)
  • Paint the boot stripe
  • Install a new thru-hull for the future water maker.

Touche's Voyage

I thought I would add this post from Hayden Cochrane's blog summarizing the 2 week visit of Judith Jacobsen and her husband Haakon to the Miami Boat Show presenting the amazing trip they made to Svalbard way up north.  Find it here

Planning the Watermaker Installation

Layout of components - Click to Enlarge

We took two tries at this, but this one seems to be the most compact.  the longest run is from the membrane to the tank for the product water line.  The brine drains to the shower sump in the aft head and is pumped overboard.

COMPLETE THE STORY

Hello all.  I must admit to being a bit reticente in completing the story of our trip to Mexico.  It is marred by an incident of mental hea...
