Leaving Sidney, we had to beat to windward most of the way down the coast deciding to stop in Oak Bay for the evening. We had been noticing anomalies in the wind instrument and did a few tests only to discover that the instrument had not been properly calibrated. So we dug out the manual and went through the calibration process and then all started to make sense between what we observed and what the instrument was telling us.
Conclusion: don't believe everything you see.
