Gabriola Island 3: Down the River and Across
Off we went down the south arm of the Fraser River and off to the Sand Heads and which point we unfurled the sails in only 6 knots of wind. Then the wind died completely and we ended up motoring across - which is annoying given that this is a SAILBOAT.
Mascot ready to go
Admiral at the helm
Lafarge Concrete
Stacked Containers
Car Transport Ship
The Whale watching boat heads out of Steveston and ignores the wake it creates for we slow moving sailboats
One of many tugs towing barges on the Fraser River
First Mate commiserating with the ships mascot
Admiral just emerging from the companionway
At the slip in Silva Bay Marina
Tranquil evening in Silva Bay
More to come....

Gabriola Island 2 8:30 AM Good Friday
Up after a bit of sleeping in and having breakfast. The dog is barking at passers-by in our temporary slip where we refuelled. We have been using diesel to heat the boat and we almost ran the tank dry (600 litres) and we filled it to the brim - OUCH $$$$$$$.
Having a bit of breakfast and then we ready the boat to go - high tide and will be beginning to ebb shortly which will give us a bit of a push downriver.

Gabriola Island
Here we are approaching Easter and we've decided to take our first trip of 2011. We leave in the morning at high tide for Gabriola Island and a little marina in Sylva Bay. More to come.

April
Halfway through April already and the temperatures here in Vancouver have not changed all that much. We were hoping for spring, but it seems to be slow in arriving. Easter would be the first outing across the Strait of Georgia for us if the weather cooperates.
What has been bombarding us is a lot of bullshit from politicians. Canada is in the midst of a Federal election and only one thing is certain about all the verbiage floating around: they are all lies. This is not cynicism, but simple truth. The days of principles, articulating them and actually walking the talk (if these days ever did exist) have certainly bin thrown in the dust bin in favour of spin, rhetoric, and crap as if every mind in the country had an IQ of 3.
