Update Soon

After a week ill, I'm off to Edmonton again on project and PhD work.  I'll update the spring cleaning list including:


  • Cetol on the teak
  • Making Sunbrella winch covers
  • Planning to make cockpit cushions
  • Preparing for the installation of a SS Arch, solar panels and wind generator
  • Flag halyard changes
  • Teak cockpit table installation

Lago Refinery - Aruba

I was looking at some of the cruising blogs and the one for S/V Balvenie shows their anchorage in Aruba on arrival from Curasao.  That refinery was where my father worked.  He was there through World War II up to just after my sister and I were born.  The family then emigrated to Canada

Spring Cleaning

The raw teak (that is, the teak not finished with Cetol), weathers through the winter and has to be cleaned.

So here it is cleaned up and looking like new.  After cleaning, the teak is treated with teak oil




Here the morning dew is beading on the oiled surface



More dew and in shadow, but beautiful still




Teak has such rich colour when it's treated and oiled.
